About the Workshop
Long Form Improv is an art form that has been in development for nearly a century. It offers people the opportunity to step into their imagination and to bring that imagination to life. Through a structured approach to play, with a focus on listening, responding and agreeing, students will learn how to build and inhabit worlds and characters together.
This workshop will focus on the basics of Long Form Improv and will instill in the participants the core philosophy of “Yes, And”. We will play games that activate our listening skills, encourage us to find agreement wherever possible and enforce the power and joy of support. Through games and scene work, students will find themselves inhabiting characters and worlds never imagined before, and never to be seen again.
Long Form Improv has the special power to bring out the best in people. Whether one thinks of themself as an actor or as ‘funny’, or not, the techniques shared in this workshop will prove that anybody can find confidence as a performer. Long Form Improv ABC’s will take place over the course of a few hours wherein students will learn the very basics they need to play scenes that are completely spontaneous, fun and relatable. We will cover the basics of building Base Reality and some techniques to explore these realities in ways that excite and satisfy the creative mind. The Workshop will culminate with a presentation by the students, giving them a chance to show off what they have learned.
