Job Summary

The Health Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all issues relating to the health of the students during their time at the school. The on-site hours for this position are 8:15 am- 12:45 pm (Monday-Friday) with three hours per week of remote work supporting those on campus. The position serves as a liaison to parents on health-related issues and provides education/training on health issues to students, staff & families, promoting and sustaining a healthy community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Health Coordinator is responsible for all issues relating to the health of Scattergood Friends School students during their time at the school. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Dean of Students and the Student Support Team with the development and maintenance of school health policies.

  • Provides basic healthcare to ill or injured students or staff when school is in session.

  • Provides health information and training on health topics to staff, students, and parents.

  • Maintains accurate medical records to assure compliance with Iowa state, and Cedar County mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.

  • Initiates contact with, and acts as a liaison between, home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health of the school community.

  • Confirm student’s insurance benefits with insurance companies and coordinate student appointments with appropriate covered healthcare providers, per Scattergood’s guidelines

  • Order, procure, and maintain medical supplies, and coordinate student medications

  • Provide health support and consultation in response to emergency situations.

Other Duties

  • Attend occasional community events in coordination with Head of School/Dean of Students

  • Model the values of Scattergood Friends School

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 2-years relevant experience in a medical capacity (EMT, Nursing)

  • Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)

  • Experience working with teenagers.

  • Comfort in engaging with students from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, gender-identity, sexuality, and religious backgrounds.

  • Comfort offering professional opinion and guidance during emerging medical situations

  • Ability to maintain composure and remain calm during stressful medical situations

  • Effective communication skills and proficiency with Google Suite applications.

  • Ability to collaborate with with a team around policy and student-focused decision-making
