Dear Friends,

It is my great honor to represent Scattergood Friends School as the Head of School. Since 1890, Scattergood has thrived by educating a diverse group of young people of strong character, intelligence, compassion and skill. We are excited to continue sharing our long tradition of Quaker education and values with 52 of our newest student body, and believe that the Quaker values of simplicity, integrity, non-violence, peace, equality are more relevant today than ever.

Today, teachers continue the tradition of respecting and challenging each student, inspiring excellence, independence, community-minded leadership, and creativity. Students truly commit to their education at Scattergood; they develop a strong work ethic and they express themselves freely and fully. Our engaged classes are lively promoting   the next great idea, academic skills, calls to service, and, of course, friendship.

Over the course of the year, our students enjoy attending classes where teachers are guides and mentors excited to teach. We love Farm Work Day, and of course our traditional Camping Weekend and spring trips when we hit the back country to canoe and hike and immerse ourselves within nature. Parents, Scattergood friends and alumni join us on campus during Scattergood Days, when we get to bask in each others' company, throw a frisbee, visit a teacher and enjoy the fresh produce and foods from Scattergood's Organic Farm.

Scattergood Friends School and Farm strives to provide students with the skills to joyfully meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world within the structure of Quaker education. Our rigorous academics and learning opportunities outside the classroom equip our students to become innovative and independent decision-makers, self-advocates, and healthy people with lifelong friendships. Students are challenged to become familiar with the unfamiliar, and enjoy the process of discovery. By the time graduation arrives, we envision our students leaving Scattergood Friends School with the notion that the world is a source of promising and joy-filled opportunities, and that each human being has a purpose and a meaningful contribution to make.

We hope you can make your way here and see for yourself what makes this community rich with learning opportunities.

Peace and gratitude
