It is my pleasure to welcome you to Scattergood Friends School. 

A Quaker-based, college-preparatory boarding and day school, Scattergood Friends’ campus is located on over 100 acres of idyllic farmland outside West Branch, IA.  Our uniquely serene location brings students from all over the US and the world.  We are a diverse community made up of students from as nearby as Iowa City and Des Moines and as far away as China and Rwanda.  

Scattergood Friends is committed to providing a high-quality college preparatory education while at the same time preparing students for life beyond Scattergood by developing strong senses of independence, responsibility, and stewardship to the Earth.  By working with staff in our work crew program to maintain the campus and farm, as well as cultivating and preparing food and working with animals, students gain a sense of ownership of their community and educational opportunities until any other.

Scattergood students live the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community and equality daily leading to a close community rooted in mutual respect between students and staff.     

It’s difficult to sum up our very unique school in a few short paragraphs, but suffice to say, Scattergood is a wonderful place that takes great kids and makes them amazing.  The best way to understand Scattergood is to come for a visit and see us in action.
