Mark Quee
- B.S. in English Education from Iowa State University, 1991
I came to Scattergood in 1999 after spending 8 post-college years continuing my education by traveling, working in homeless shelters, and learning the hows and whys of organic vegetable production. Much of my time was spent in Philadelphia, where I divided my time between being a night supervisor at a shelter for chronically homeless men and worked at a UCC Church, leading urban work camps for visiting youth groups. I picked apples in York County, Pennsylvania for eight seasons with others committed to simplicity, peace and social justice and spent time in Oregon, living and working at a Benedictine monastery. I have also interned on an organic vegetable farm, lived in a Catholic Worker community, thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail and spent one summer doing a meandering solo, self-contained 6000 mile bicycle tour from Mt. Angel, Oregon to Philadelphia, PA.
My job at Scattergood allows me to nurture my many selves: the teacher, lover of books and films, outdoors explorer, organic farmer and one who appreciates living in community. My wife Jennie and I have a young daughter, who loves having the other young children and high school students around for play dates.
