Christine brings extensive classroom teaching and administrative experience to Scattergood Friends School as well as a strong interest in theater. Christine joined Scattergood Friends School in 2010 after serving as teacher, college counselor, dean of students, and director during her tenure at Thornton Friends Middle and Upper Schools. She most recently came to us from Maryland where she taught math and language arts at Oneness Family School, a Montessori school.

Christine Ashley has lived and worked in many locations around the globe since she began teaching in 1989, including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Singapore, and India.  While living overseas, Christine directed literacy programs, worked in training and development programs, taught ESL and worked in women’s development and water organizations, all during an eight year period.

A graduate of Vassar College, she has also done advanced graduate work in psychology and international education and development.

Christine speaks “remnants of Mandarin Chinese, fractured Tibetan and Indonesian, spotty German, and 7th grade French”.  She shares her appreciation of world cultures with her London-born husband Mark, and children Kieran, Callum, Sebastian, Sophie, and Thomas.  10th grader Sebastian is enrolled at Scattergood Friends School.
