The Advisory Program at Scattergood was developed to provide additional support for students living away from home, often for the first time.  An Advisor’s duties include a variety of responsibilities such as providing a ride to town, helping with specific problems and checking on students in the dorm when they are sick.  Advisers keep track of their advisees progress both academically and socially.  Each Monday, advisors have lunch with advisees and use that as a time to check-in.  Most advisors also plan off-campus outings at least once each semester.

The advising system is a way to make sure that each student has at least one adult staff member with whom they have made a connection.  Parents are encouraged to contact the advisor when needed and advisors maintain regular contact with parents through Community Life Reports each term which evaluate the total student including dorm life, crew, health, social life, accountability, committee work, and community involvement.
