Tuition and Financial Aid
Scattergood has a long history of providing a strong and affordable education to students from around the globe. In the past 10 years, we have been able maintain competitive tuition, room and board costs with the other boarding schools in our area, while still holding true to this philosophy. Today, over 80% of our students receive financial aid and our tuition costs remain one of the lowest in the region. We are happy to provide our families with the resources needed to afford a well-rounded, Quaker education.
Scattergood's tuition for the 2008-09 school year is $22,750 for full boarding students, $21,250 for 5-day boarders and $13,950 for day students. Tuition does not include fees for science labs or art project fees, these are student billed and typicaly run about $150 per semester. Any additional expenses such as transportation costs or school materials and personal items bought at our student store will be billed to the parents on a monthly basis. Most students do not require much spending money; we find that $20-$40 per month is generally sufficient for personal use.
At Scattergood, financial aid is awarded based on need. We use the School and Student Services (SSS) form to determine this need. The SSS form is filled out by the parents and sent into an independent company to determine the amount of need a family has. Once that form is completed by the company, it is sent back to Scattergood along with the amount that the company feels the family can pay. The Financial Aid Committee at Scattergood looks at the amount and considers any other factors that the family has told us about, but the form has not taken into consideration. We then set a tuition amount and an enrollment form is sent to the family (for more information on enrollment, please see the section entitled Enrollment Procedure).
The fastest and most convenient way to apply for aid is to fill out the online SSS form. The online form can be accessed from the SSS website https://sss.ets.org . or through the NAIS website at http://www.nais.org . If you are having any problems filling out the form, please feel free to call the Admissions Office or the SSS Helpline number (609-771-7770).
Scattergood also provides a convenient payment service to all our families, regardless of whether or not they apply for financial aid. This service is called the Academic Management Services tuition payment plan. This is not a loan, but rather a way to break your tuition bill into manageable monthly payments. We currently have a large number of our parents using this service. This is a convenient way to spread out the tuition payments whether or not you are receiving financial aid. They offer convenient online enrollment and bill payments. Or you can set up your account over the phone. You can also get free information on the lowest-cost payment plan if you call their toll-free number at 1-800-635-0120.
