““Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.  Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. –Margaret Mead”  All the teachers there at Scattergood are a true reflection of Margaret Mead’s quote.  I sincerely appreciate all that you and the team are doing.”   - Parent ‘15

“At Scattergood, each person's voice is heard.”  - Student ‘13

A Guatemalan Poet once said, "There are few things more beautiful than re-imagining the World through the eyes of a child."  The same could be said about looking through the eyes of the Scattergood community.  Throughout my stay, I have felt welcomed, appreciated and supported….To the school's vision:  Thank you for being alive, energetic, passionate and seems to parallel Professor Nel Nodding's belief that "The main aim of education should be to produce competent, caring, loving, and loveable people.”  - Campus Visitor '07

"This place fills me with a sense of self so strong it's indescribable, the lessons I've learned in and out of the classroom will stay with me for life." -Student ‘12

“It has been nearly 38 years since I graduated from Scattergood… It's heartwarming to know that the concept of Scattergood School has continued and is thriving, and I can tell you that the length of time between my next visits will not be so long!" - Graduate ‘67

“I love Scattergood because of the overall environment. For example, in classes I am encouraged to speak, and we have discussion-based classes where I feel like I am actually learning, rather than just remembering. We are encouraged to not only grow academically but as individuals, too. I love crew because it gives me not only the skills I may need for future jobs/odds and ends, but it instills a work ethic I didn't have before.”    -Student ‘14

"The only thing we agreed on all summer was Scattergood."  Parent '14

“For me, Scattergood is a home away from home. It supports me and helps me grow, but at the same time it challenges me academically and also mentally. The great way our community works together is a bonus, and I love that I can wake up in the morning looking forward to what the day will bring.”      -Student '13

“Over his four years at Scattergood, our son has grown immensely.  Being immersed in a community of his peers that truly embrace him for who he is has been wonderful.  The connections he has made here, both with students and staff, have helped to shape him and will stay with him throughout his life.  Before coming to Scattergood, he was in public school, where he did not find enough academic challenge.  At Scattergood, the teachers have both pushed him intellectually and nurtured him as a whole person.  His experience here has helped him to develop into a confident, assertive and thoughtful young man.  Scattergood has truly been a bridge for him to cross from childhood into adulthood, and I know he is well prepared for college and beyond.”      -Parent ‘12

“I love how Scattergood prepares you for your next big step into life. Adulthood”.  – Student ‘12

“Scattergood's Community Meetings fostered a sense of responsibility - both in identifying problems and coming up with solutions - an approach that I try to carry into my work and home life.  I seek out the better solution - not just the quick one.  The experience of living, studying, working and playing together gave us as teenagers a head start in our maturity level so that by the time we got to college we were more focused and grounded.  I now seek out the genuineness in people which could not be avoided living each day together.  The friends I made at Scattergood have continued to be lifelong friends and we easily come back to common values formed at Scattergood.   Regardless which paths our lives have taken, I have noticed that my classmates have strived to be conscientious in that path.   It was through Scattergood’s Mexico program that my lifelong interest in Spanish developed.  I have since lived there several years, organized and led college art classes to Mexico, taught high school Spanish, become a member of a Latin American music ensemble, and am currently asked to use my skills as an interpreter at my place of work on a daily basis.  Mexico has become part of my identity.”  -Graduate '78

“For me, Scattergood is a home away from home. It supports me and helps me grow, but at the same time it challenges me academically and also mentally. The great way our community works together is a bonus, and I love that I can wake up in the morning looking forward to what the day will bring.”      -Student '13
