Technology

  • Each student is issued a laptop when they arrive on campus.

At Scattergood, balance is the key in our approach to technology.  Scattergood utilizes technology in all of our academic courses while working to help students develop teamwork and interpersonal skills.  We encourage students to embrace technology’s contributions but understand its limitations.

Since its inception in 2003, our Laptop Program has provided each student with a laptop when they arrive on campus and it is his or hers until they depart at the end of the school year.  Most classrooms are equipped with LED projectors or Smartboards and our entire campus, including dormitories are wireless.  Through coursework and assignments, students become experienced in Excel, Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, Publisher and science courses use Vernier Probeware to measure real-time data in original experiments.  Teachers use blogs, webpages and online calendars as means to keep students informed of assignments as well as several other online educational resources.

While we utilize email for relaying information, we rely far more heavily on our community’s traditional methods of sharing information such as Post-Meal Announcements and Community Meeting.  We continue to balance technology with inter and intrapersonal communication and in May 2012 we will be offering our first intensive, interdisplinary course combining rocketry and poetry entitled The Poetry and Physics of Flight.
