Grading Policies
Progress Reports
Scattergood students and their parents receive a narrative evaluation from each of their teachers on a monthly basis throughout the school year. These progress reports describe the class content and activities for the month and give detailed feedback on a student's performance and effort in the class. These reports serve as an important communication between teachers, students and parents, and are also part of a student's permanent file.

Academic Alerts
A teacher places a student on Academic Alert when it appears that a student may not be at a passing level at the end of the block. The Academic Alert form describes why the student is in danger of not passing the block, and what the student must do in order to be removed from Academic Alert in that course.
The aim of Academic Alert is to notify the student, his or her parents, and the student's advisor of academic concerns, so that appropriate steps can be taken to ensure that the student passes the block.
Full boarding students that are still on Academic Alert in one or more classes at 3:00 pm on Friday will be required to attend a two-hour study hall in the library on Sunday afternoon. For students that are home on the weekend, parents may want to make a special effort to check with them about their class work.

Scattergood's grading system is as follows:
Honors
The student has demonstrated extraordinary achievement and usually has undertaken projects or studies well beyond the minimum required.
Pass
The student has met or exceeded standard course requirements and receives credit for the course.
No Pass
The student has not met the minimum course requirements and does not receive credit for the course.
Attend
The student has been attentive and committed, but has not met satisfactory achievement levels. This grade is most often used in the case of international ESL students not yet able to complete the full coursework in English.
Incomplete
A temporary grade of an incomplete will be given to a student only in cases of emergency, sickness, or circumstances beyond the student's control. The teacher will indicate the new due date for completion of all work and the reporting of a final grade to the academic office. If the student is late or fails to turn in the work outlined by the teacher, the incomplete will become a No Pass.
